Reflections
on Victor Hugo’s “Les Misérables”
Twenty-five years ago, I wrote
a study guide on “Les Misérables” to help my senior pupils produce a piece of
writing on it. A year or so later, I thought other students might find it useful so I uploaded
it to the internet.
I am reproducing it here
because the site to which it was uploaded has been deleted, but I would like to think use may
yet be found for the content of my notes.
Apart from discussion and
analysis of characters and themes, you will find brief reviews of a variety of
film versions of Hugo’s sweeping story, and my thoughts on the musical version.
I hope you find these
notes of some value.
